User Defaults, NSPopUpButton and Bindings

Sometimes the simple things can be complicated if you are used to complicated scenarios. After successfully using Cocoa Bindings for a lot of things, I wanted something really simple:

Let the user set a default settings with an NSPopUpButton. The setting actually is an integer, but I would like to present some text to the user.

The trick is not to be confused about the various bindings: All you really need is contentValues and selectedIndex (or selectedObject, depending on what kind of value you need).

You can add the values that the user can select from in various ways, I have decided to make it a controller key. And because there are not many objects in the little project, I subclassed NSUserDefaults, and added the method "levels". This now is a controller key.

{
return [NSArray arrayWithObjects:@"Quiet", @"Normal", @"Verbose", @"Debug Output", nil];
}

Surely, you could get your values from a file, or whereever.

In the Nib file I added my own NSUserDefaultsController and set the class to my subclass (you can't really set the class of the shared instance, of course).

Then I set the bindings for the NSPopUpButton as follows:

Hello, you say "You can add the values that the user can select from in various ways, I have decided to make it a controller key."

Is it possible to mention what are the other ways to add values to a popup and how-to do it?

For example, you could write the values for the popup to the defaults system, and just get them from the defaults controller.

Alternatively, you could also add a controller key to the "Nib Owner".
