Regardless of the
CAN-SPAM Act of 2003, Spam seems to be on the rise again. Most of it is luckily found in filters of various sorts, but lets at a my main eMail account to see how many fabulous offers I got yesterday...
1) First line of defense: Blacklists
No less than 62 unsolicited emails were stopped from even reaching the mail server by blacklist filters. Thanks to SBL, XBL and others I don't have to worry about them
2) Second line of defense: Spamassasin
27 spam mails were found and flagged by Spamassasin
3) Third line of defense: Mail.app
Lastly, 20 spam mails were flagged my Mail.app's own Junk Mail Filter
Now, the good news: No Spam actually landed in my inbox me that day thanks to the various filters(from this account), and more than 50% were actually blocked before even being processed by the mail server.
The bad news: That is no less than 109 Spam Mails. For a single account. For a single day.
I will do a little analysis or where the spam leads to in the next days.
